Was Santa good to you???

Goodafternoon everybody!

weather here is bit grey, not really cold, but boring weather.
We have temperatures around 6-8C, so not all too bad.

Our Christmas was wonderful! First want to thank everybody for their good wishes, you are all so kind to me!
Santa was very good to us, we had lots of presents and we loved them.
One particular one gave me a big smile on the face, it was send all the way from the U.S.A. and it was a windchime in the form of a windmill! t is sooo adorable! I will make a photo of it when I found the right place for it in the garden.
We were really spoiled  and it brought a warm feeling into our heart.
Dinner I made also came out good, there was enough of it for two days( I always seem to make more than really needed, LOL).
We enjoyed wsatching some great shows on tv, but my absolute favourite(of course) was on Saturday before Christmas. it was the Strictly come dancing Christmas special on the BBC.
Fantastic!
It is such a shame that it is over for this season, I will have to wait a long time into next year to watch the next one. But okay, there are other things to watch and that will be almost as good.

Yesterday I had my friend Heidi on the phone for just a moment, but it seems that her operation went well and she already was on the way home. I will leave her in peace the coming days, but surely will pay her a visit somewhere next week, in the new year.
I am already happy to know, that for know she is doing well.

Can you believe it that in a few days we already are starting a brand new year??? Gosh, it looks as if it flew away again in a second. I think I say that every year, but really, looking back, it seems it has been so short!
Think I have all in the house for New Year's Eve. If possible I want to avoid going shopping on Monday , probably the shops will be crowded.
We will stay home, nice and warm, and at midnight we will watch a bit the fireworks in the neighbourhood from our window.
And then "normal"life will start again. In January Jan and I both will have our birthdays, we will be 66!! In the head I don;t feel like it, but sometimes my body says something different LOL!

I have one more Christmaskit to share, named it Christmas with a Blush.  I also put Arlene's clusters for download with it.
Now I want to wsh you a fantastic New Year´s Eve and a very good start of the New Year.
Till next year!!

Are you ready for Christmas?

Goodafternoon everybody!

We have rather mild weather for this time of year. Last couple of days we had temperatures of around 11-12C, okay, with some rain here and there, but still not cold. The coming days temperatures will drop a little bit to around 5-6C, but with practically no rain and very little wind. So no white Christmas here(and I don;t mind it too much at all).

I had the prescription from my doctor for a Gastroscopie, I could pick it up last Monday. So rigth away I phoned to the hospital for an appointment. Oh my, seems to be very busy there, I couldn;t get one earlier than on the 8th of February!. If I opted for another hospital there was may be a possibility to have one somewhat earlier, but the hospital is not close, takes a long voyage with the tram and isn;t practical at all. so I opted for the one in my "own"hospital.
Okay, I still have every now and then some trouble with the tummy, and it isn;t nice, but I can live with it. So we just will have to be a bit more careful with the things I eat(not too spicy, not too much coffee, those things already help). If things get really much worse I always can call my doctor and then perhaps I can go earlier. Just let's hope that won;t be necessary. I just want to know what is causing this trouble, and hopefully there will be a solution for it.

On to more lighter and nicer things.
I have I think all in  the house now for Christmas and Christmas dinner and the days before and after too.
I did it in batches and it wasn't stressing I must say. during my visits into town city(mostly just to relax) I stumbled upon a few things that I bought for Jan as Christmas present. I know, we long time ago already agreed not to buy presents for eachother, but once in a whbile I cannot resist it ROFL. They aren;t expensive, but nice and practical too.
Not telling now what, you never know who reads the blog, hmmmmm?

Got a phonecall from Heidi, who invited us for a drink on Boxing Day.
We agreed, so we will be there around 3 o'clock afternoon. Think it will be till may be 5 and then we go home again and have our dinner nice and quiet. It is sweet she is doing this. I will make her a batch of stew pears, I know she likes them.
Then the day after she will have to go to hospital for her heartoperation, the repair on a vain around her heart. They must burn that little vain away, so to speak, because it is causing a to high blood pressure for her. The operation goes through her groin, so not too straining, but she still will have to stay a day there, just for check and security. If all goes well, she can be home again on Friday.
Let's cross fingers and pray that all goes well. f course she will have to recover a little bit from it, so if possible(and with her it is very difficult to achive hahaha, I know her!!!!)she will have to take it easy for a month or better two. We will see if she can force herself to do it!

When I will have finished this post i will pop into the kitchen, first to prepare a little bit for today's dinner, but also already prepare a little bit for tomorrow, Christmas Eve. I will make a potatoe salad with slices of smoked salmon, yummie! so I will cut now already the ingredients for the salad, and boil the potatoes. Then if we are may be a bit hungry later on, I have some really nice salami and a piece of french Camembert cheese, with some rustique bread pieces.
well, Christmasday you know already we will have rabbit, with home made apple sauce and potato croquettes. Oh for starter we will have a small cup of mushroom soup(I will add lots of fresh mushrooms to it) and desert will be Tiramisu.
Think, it will be a yummie dinner. Then if we like to have a little bite, I have some more french cheese with some toast or bread.
Next day it will be very easy. We will just have the left overs, and I expect there to be more than enough of it.
But first Jan and I can finally open ur presnets under the Christmastree.
I think it will be around 4.00 o'clock in the afernoon, with all the lights on and cozy and warm. Oh it will be sooo exciting!

Good, this is it for now.
I have a Christmas kit for you in more traditional colours, named it A Christmas Hug, together with Arlene;s clusters.

Last thing to do is wishing you all a Merry Christmas!!!

Feels a bit like winter

Goodafternoon everybody!

Yes, I am a day early, but I have kind of a "day off " today, and thought it might be a good idea to do the blogpost now.
That day off means I am not doing grocerie shopping, or laundry, or vacuum cleaning or whatever, just take it real easy and enjoy doing that LOL!

The last couple of days we had rather cold temperatures, daytime not much more than 2-4 C and at night a bit of frost. Lucky there wasn;t too much wind.
But as from tomorrow it should change again and temperatures should go up to around 7C and no frost at night. Lovely!

Before I forget, I got one comment on last week's post, that the link at Arlene's clusters would lead to the download link of the whole kit? I tried the link and I got just the link for Arlene's clusters. If there still problems with that, please let me know, so that I can change it if necessary.

Last week was a more or less quiet week, I did some more grocerie shopping, got already lots of things I need for Christmas dinner and Christmas Eve and Boxing day, so I am almost ready with that. Of course there are also the usual things you need to get, like fresh milk, and such.
Then I went back to the doctor, because the medicine drink he gave me, is helping , but not enough to my liking, So I will get a referral letter for the hospital to have an endoscopie (earlier than was planned by the hospital). I can pick it up on Monday and then i will have to make a phonecall for an appointment. Hopefully it will not take too much time before they can plan me in. For now I will hold on, it isn;t too bad, just at some moments it plays tricks  with me a bit.
Oh well, I surely will survive, don;t worry!

I had a phonecall with my friend Heidi, all seems to go opkay with her at the moment. As usual she is far too busy for her own good, but  that's how she is. Sometimes she can take it more easy, but their lives seems so busy(or may be they are making it also a bit too busy), not really enough time for all.
Still I am glad she is doing as well as canbe at the moment. she told me she will have a small bunch of people over with Christmasday, and they will stay for dinner too! Now she is making all kind of little snacks, warm and cold, so everyone can pick what they like. It is much less straining than cooking the whole dinner herself. Lots of things she can pick up in the shop, ready made, so that is easy for her.

I am happy that Jan and I are just together at Christmas. Sounds perhaps not nice, but we had our share of Christmasdays surrounded by lots of people, me cooking dinner for about 10-12 people and such.
Now it is rather nice to be together, have a nice and tasty meal and be able to do whatever you want and watch some great Christmasshow at tv. Sounds perhaps boring, but I like it a lot this way, these days.
Perhaps it means we are getting somewhat old, hahaha.

Oh my, the day before yesterday I had a not so nice thing happening to me. I was out to do some grocerie shopping, just a few things, had to get me some money with my bankcard, that was okay, then after the shopping I realized it should have taking just a little bit more in cash, so I went for another bit of cash at the ATM, and i got the message:"there is an error occuring, contact your bank"
Oh no, I thought, just now perhaps my bankcard has a scratch or so, that prevents it from working correctly.
Hm, so i decided to go to the bank to be sure. Arriving there, the guy who helped me(very nice man, I must say)told me that there was no need to be concerned about my card. I just took money from a "guest ATM" (one from another bank) and you can only do that one time a day. If I should do it at one of my own bank, there should be no problem. I tried it out there and oh relief, the card worked well.!
so I made the journey to the bank somewhat for nothing(because I already thought it might be as the guy told me, but I wasn;t sure), but I didn;t care, now I knew there was nothing wrong with my card. I would have been very unpleasant not having my card, specially these days, when you seem to use it more than usual.

Just looking out of the window now and it looks rather nice outside. At least, the sun is shoning, there even is some blue sky, but looking at the people that walk along the street, it still must be rather cold.
Hmm, may be I should go out for a short while, just to have a snoff of air(and then it is just so nice coming into the house again, it feels much warmer than when you left it, funny thing somehow.)

Time to take a bite now and something to drink.
I have for you another Christmas kit, together with the clusters Arlene made.
Have a wonderful week.

Christmas already arrived in our home!

Goodafternoon everybody.
Yes, a bit late, because I woke up a little bit later, then slowly woke up, then Jan woke up too, I had a little breakfast, then coffee together with Jan, and in the mean time we watched a recorded edition of Strictly come dancing from yesterday. It were the semi-finals, so quite exciting.
Next week will be the finals and I am very curious who will be the winner, there are 3 very strong candidates for it.
I surely will miss it when it is over.

Weather here is kind of rainy, hard winds, sometimes a little bit of sunshine, but only for a short periode and temps slowly will go down again this week till around 4-5 C, brrrr, nor all too nice.

I went to the doctor for the tummy, he gave me a drink that should calm it down a bit more, but when I still will have troubles I should come to him somewhere next week. Then he will ask for an echoscopy in the hospital. It is somewhat better, but almost every day there are short periodes that it isn't feeling as it should. I am still lucky, that for now it is just feeling uneasy but not really hurting.
It never is the right time for it, but specially this time of year I could do without it, with Christmas coming and having to do some preparations for it etc.

Last Thursday Jan and I started decorating our living room and got it almost finished that very same day. We only had to do some smaller decorating and putting on some Christmas table cloths on several little tables and so on.
We both were quite "pooped out". But i was happy we did it and also good thing that our tree was standing, because on Friday evening the postmas brought a package from my friend Edna.
I unpacked the box and put all the presents under the tree. It is such a happy sight! I've made a photo of the tree. Now we will have to be a good boy and girl and wait till Christmasday to unwrap it all!!
Hard thing, but we will be good(and it is also part of the fun LOL).
So this week has been rather busy, with doctor visit and Christmas decorating. Next week however also I will have to do some things.
Specially the Christmas grocerie shopping. I want to do it earlier this week, because when I wait till friday or Saturday, I think there will be an enormous crowd in the supermarkets.(as well as in city centre for last minute Christmas present shopping).
Almost all things I need can be bought in advance, so that is my plan for start of the week. Then if the tummy is still doing funny,  also have to go to the doctor this week(he will be on a week holiday the week after).

Time to end this post. Must look after the stew I am making for today's dinner(with lambs meat, green beans, mushrooms, onion and potatoe). The  also want to write a few Christmascars, that  must send tomorrow or at last the day after.

I have for you the clusters Arlene made with the Warm feeling Christmaskit. Next week there will be another Christmaskit, together with the clusters!!
Wishing you all a wonderful week!

Christmas time almost starting!

Goodafternoon everybody!

We had some not to bad days speaking of the weatherconditions.
Temperatures are rather high, around 10-14 C, although later this week it will drop again to around 8C. But nothing is perfect, so with the higher temperatures we got more rain and also more wind.
Still I am happy with the temperatures, you know that freezing and snow aren;t my favourites.

I wanted to go to the doctor this week for the tummy, but i didn;t go.
Start ot the week I was to late for making an appointment( you can only call for that in the morning at certain times), then one day the doctor was absent, then i felt somewhat better, so you know how it goes then, hmmmmmm?
But then this weekend it started again so I really will go to the doctor this week.

I had good news from my friend Edna, that she already received her Christmasbox. Oh,  am so happy that I did send it early, because at the moment at the post they have millions of packages to deliver(all the on line bying is adding to that a lot, of course). They already have trouble to deliver all in time, (mostly for the Sinterklaas, Which is thie Wednesday) and then they will get the Christmas packages also after that.

Doing some grocerie shopping this week I also bought some things I would need for Christmas. I like to get things in time(some fresh you will get at the last moment, but lots of other things can be stored). I bought my rabbit that i will make for Christmas, it lies in my freezer, chopped up in several pieces.
I think  will use this recipe:

Rabbit with plums and dark brown beer(serves about 4 )

1 onion, 2 shallots, dash of vinegar, bay leaf. thyme and rosemary, bottle of dark beer, sour onions, 100 gr, smoked bacon strips, 8-10 prunes, salt and pepper

Soak the plums in 1/2 bottle of dark beer. Herb rabbit parts with salt and pepper. Bake golden brown in clarified butter.
chop onion and shallots. Fry the bacon strips too.
Pour in the rest of the beer and let it cook well.
Add the herbs. Add prunes and pickled onions to it.
Lower the heat and simmer for approx. 1 hour with the lid on the pan, till meat is soft.

You can serve it with potato croquettes, or boiled potatoes and vegetables of your choice.I might make my own appelcompote with it, or perhaps this compote and some cranberry compote too, yummie!

This week Jan and I will start decorating for Christmas already. If all goes according plan, i would start on Thursday(just after the Sinterklss holiday), and hopefully all will be about ready on Friday, and then we can enjoy it already during the weekend.

What more did I do? Oh yes, I took quite some "free"time to sit at the computer and make some Christmaskits. Yes, I really did! And I have finished already 3! Amazing, isn't it? I still want to make one or two more, but I don;t know if I can manage it already this week. Depends also a bit on the doctors visit and the Christmas decorating. And in between I have to do some cleaning around the house, some off the usual nature and some a bit extra because of Christmas holiday( some places in the room will be hard to reach with all the decorations and the tree and such).

This week  offer you the 1st Christmaskit, named it  Warm Feeling Christmas. Hope you like it.
Have a wonderful week ahead, enjoy the upcoming Christmas time and spirit, and stay safe!

All more or less quiet around here.

Goodafternoon everybody!

Very late today, first  slept longer than normal, then I first prepaired dinner stuff for this evening, all in very slow pace, so finally here  I am.
Weather isn;t the finest here, too cold for me, although not yet freezing. But a bit grey and temperatures around 3-5C, lucky wth not much wind.
But.... later this week there were brighter forecasts of the weather, we night reach spme temperatures of 8 or even 11 C again. Whoooooo, that would be nice.

This week all was kind of allright, only thing was that I had stomach troubles almost every day. Sometimes during evening, sometimes at night, and no, it isn;t pleasant at all. I know it can happen at times, but this is going on for too long time, so I am afraid I will have to make an appointment for my doctor tomorrow. I donlt know what he will be able to do, I think he will send me to hospital and may be they will  do an endoscopy. I had one several years ago, so I know what it is, they only will have to give me a light  anesthesia. But we'll see after I had my visit at the doctor.
Jan had the control appointment with his internist at the hospital and all was going quite well, the values looked good so happy news there.

I did some more designing this week, and guess what????? I even already made 1 Christmaskit!! And am halfway on a second. Wow. I don;t know where the energy or inspiration came from, but I am happy with it.
In about 1 1/2 week lots of children will be excited and happy too, because then there will be the Sinterklaas holiday. It is on the 5th o december. And if all is well here, Jan and  will start decorating the day after for Christmas. Unbelievable that it is alreday so near!
I think I already know what I will make for dinner at Christmas. But I will tell you another day about that.

Now I will finish this post, not much for you to read, but at least you kniow I am still alive LOL.
I have for you the clusters from Arlene, she made with the Just Imagine that kit.
Hope you are all safe and healthy, take care of yourselves!Till next week.

Getting colder and colder

Goodafternoon everybody!

Yes, it definately is getting colder here. Today temperature isn;t much more as around 6-7C, and later this week it will drop even more to just 4C and and at night here and there there already is some frost at the ground. Brrrrr, I don'tlike it, the more because we have an Eastern wind blowing, which makes it feel even colder. To have a positive note on this weather report, we still have some sunshine, so it looks somewhat friendly. But...... we may have some snowfall around the middle of the week. Perhaps it will be only wet snow, but still..... the white stuff is trying to make some kind of invasion LOL!

Yesterday a lot of children were all excited because Sinterklaas was coming to the Netherlands on his boat from Spain, with a lot of presents for all the good children!

It is tradition that during his stay here the children are allowed to put their shoe in front of the chimney( or near a door, because not many people have a real fire place anymore, and normally the Black Peters came through the chimney) and the next morning they might find some sweets in it.
I remember it well from my childhood and it is a wonderful time.
A bit the same as Santa Claus in a lot of countries.

In our life it is rather quiet at the moment. We do our daily things, it fills the time always more than you think.
I wrapped up the Christmas presents I need to send away in a box, and I am proud of myself, hahaha. The box is standing near to me and I will bring it to the post this week. I know, it is rather early, but I really want it to arrive on time, last year it took such a long time, it only arrived after Christmas! Now that isn;t what we want, is it?
And you will see, that it will arrive within may be two weeks, so much too early, but better this than the alternative!

Today I already prepared our meal for this evening, well, I did cut up all the things needed for it. I will make a stew with onion and carrot. I don;t know if you have ever eaten it or even heard of it. It is a very known winter meal here in Holland, and best is it with a piece of smoked sausace(it is a raw one that you have to warm up(not boil) in hot water for around 20-30 minutes.

I have the recipe for you(one of the many variations LOL), if you might want to try it . It is for 4 persons, so easy to make more or less.
Ingredients
1 kg of winter carrots
1 kg of potatoes
500 grams of onions
1 block of beef broth
Smoked sausage(but you also can have a meat ball, or beef stew with it, or whatever is to your liking)
pepper
salt

 Preparation

Cook the potatoes for 15 - 20 minutes, cut the onions into pieces and the winter carrots into strips.
Boil the carrots and onions together with the block of beef broth for about 20 minutes.
Drain the potatoes and vegetables together in a pan and coarsely mash. Then make the smoked sausage warm.
Then season the stew with salt and pepper. The smoked sausage can be served separately or in small pieces through the mash.

Also very nice with it are small smoked bacon strips(we can buy them raw here and then we fry them ourselves in a frying pan for some minutes). Then you have to be careful with the salt, because the bacon already is really salty!
Have a bit of nice thick gravy with it and ..... enjoy your meal.

That was it for this week.  I think I will sit down on the couch and watch a bit of sport. May be I will be brave enough this week to start on a Christmas kit. I should start early on it, because I am rather slow in designing at the moment. For today I have a fresh finished kit(just finished and uploaded it yesterday!), named Just Imagine that.......

Wishing you a lovely week, stay safe and healthy!

Hopefully one day the world will learn!

Goodafternoon everybody!

Not much happened here. Weather is okay, with mostly temperatures around 12-14C, one day a bit more filled with sunshine than another, but still not bad for the time of year.

Today in many countries there was 100th anniversary of the ending of World War I.! I watched some bits of it on tv, and it was very impressive.
This was a terrible war, with so many people killed, as well soldiers as civilians, and then you will have to count all the wounded, of which some survived, and many died after a short time.

World War One was one of the deadliest conflicts in the history of the human race, in which over 16 million people died. The total number of both civilian and military casualties is estimated at around 37 million people. The war killed almost 7 million civilians and 10 million military personnel.
Many people died, not from combat, but from diseases caused by the war, a figure estimated at around 2 million deaths. 6 million people went missing during the war and were presumed dead. Two out of three soldiers died in battle, the rest died due to infections or disease.

When you take time for a minute just to think about it, it is shocking.
And it is true that we never should forget.
It is also necessary to understand a little bit about WW1, to understand why there was so soon the WW2!. But we never should forget and we also must tell about it to our children.

After such hard times, you might expect that finally people would have learned from it, but no, there still if war going on on our planet, and you wonder why it is so hard to live next to eachother in peace.
Leave everyone in his or her dignity, respect eachother,
accept that every person can have a different opinion, but that this should not be a hindrance to simply interact and live together!

Gosh, this is quite a "heavy"start of my blogpost. But we have to continue to spread this peaceful message, otherwise mankind will be lost totally.

On a lighter note though, I received an email of my niece in France. All is going well there, and she will be moving from the north of France to the south(lucky girl!). We don't have much contact, but every now and then we send eachother a little email, and that is a nice thing.
She is about the only family that I have(well, there are some distant nieces and nephews and so on somewhere on this world,) but she is about the closest.

I received some papers this week from my pension fund, I have to fill in a few forms, nothing much, so they can start paying my pension(it's the one I build up during the time I had a job) and that will be around the middle of next year. That done, another step is done towards the life of a pensionado LOL.

Oh, I also made a step towards Christmas package sending. I did wrap already a lot of presents, still have to look for one or two more and then I will have to find the right box.The one i have now I think will be just a little bit too large. I will find a right one, I am sure. Not far from our house there is a toy shop, and towards our Sinterklaas and also Christmas, they often put a lot of boxes in a small container. That all are boxes that came in filled with all kind of toys and they normally fold them flat, but during this time of year they are so kind to put out a lot of boxes of all formats outside the shop. So soon I will be able to search for the "right"box LOL.

Good, this is all there is to tell, I have for you a set of clusters from Arlene, made with the "In the Library "kit. hopefully next weekend I will have a new kit for you.
I wish you a wonderful day and week.

Oh luxury! I can tap water again!

Goodafternoon everybody!

Today is my friend Edna is having her birthday, so from here I wish you a Happy Birthday and that you will have an awesome day!

The weather here is quiet, not bad at all, last few days we had temperature around 10C, it might creep up this week a bit to 13-14C.
We have sunshine with some clouds, not much wind, so I am not disappointed about this weather.

You know i had trouble with the tap at the sink in the kitchen.
Well, Monday morning I called my plumber and he was so nice to come that very same day. He fixed the tap(he put in a new one), without having to remove the sink, he could reach the tap with some gymnastic movements LOL.
At the same time he cleaned the central heating kettle, so all was done on the same day and for a very nice price. It was a lot cheaper as I thought it would be.
I am sooo happy with the new tap, with this one it is als easier to put a bucket under it than with the old one.
I believe that also Jan was happy with the fact, that our plumber did the job, bought the new tap etc.

The rest of the week was quiet, filled with all kind of little jobs done in the house, nothing really exciting, but I had enough excitement with the tap not working last week and all the commotion, so for me it was more than okay.

I didn;t do much work at the computer, I hope  will have more inspiration this week to finish a kit and then slowly to start with some Christmas themed ones. I should make at least 2. I must say I am a bit lazy this year with designing, perhaps it has somewhat to do withthe trouble we had end of last year and also start of this one, I don;t really know.
Also it might have to do with the fact that my laptop is so very slow, I hope it will hold on for about another 6 months or so, by then we will be in a slightly better financial position (having state pension and a small supplementary pension, no more social security stuff, that will be giving a lot of peace of mind, I hope) and I could buy me a new one, or good second hand one. But.... we must wait for that still about 6 months, because at the moment state pension isn't anymore at 65 years but in our case 66 + 4 months. (We sould have been born one or two years earlier, then we still would have had the old regulation of 65 years. Yes, the government in all its wisdon(hahaha) decided some years ago that start of year of pension should be at a higher age. we are still kind of lucky, because it is now at 67 years.

This week i think I should make some time for wrapping up Christmas presents, that I have to send away in a package. I want to send it early, because last year it took an terrible long time to arrive at destination, so I want to bring it to the post office around perhaps the 3rd week of November. Better it arrives may be one or two weeks before Christmas than too late again.

Must take a look in the kitchen, because I have a stew on the stove bubbling. Just a minute.......................okay, that is ready. Easy cooking that is, now I only have to boil a couple of potatoes to go with that and done. When i finished this post I want to make a small pan with stew pears, it is the season again for them and I love to have them as dessert.

Today I have for you some fantastic clusters made by Arlene, made with the Halloween kit of last week.
Have a wonderful day and week, take care of yourselves!

Oh boy, some bad luck today.

Goodafternoon everybody.

Well, not such a good afternoon for me though. Just a few minutes ago Jan came to me telling that probably the tap in the kitchen(at the sink) died.
That is bad news. I need at times water, of course, for cooking, for washing up dishes etc. and all kind of things.
I already thought that lately things were going too smoothly and see, there is trouble again.
Jan said he porbably could place another tap himself, but I have no big confidence in it. perhaps not good of me, but if you never did any serious plumbing, perhaps it is better to stay away of it nad call for a plumber. You cannot just change the tap, you cannot come by it, because you first will have to remove the inbuild sink. And I rather have somebody work on it who knows about it. Is it mean? Perhaps it takes more money, yes, but somehow we will manage that.
First I will call the plumber tomorrow morning and hope that he can come really soon. Then he can take a look and give me his opinion and price indication and fix it quickly. t is very annoying not to be able to use that tap!.
Now Jan is cross with me, I think because I show no confidence in him, but am I so wrong in wanting to have the job done good and by someone who knows about it?
I definately am not having a good day today!

Apart from this event, last week went quite well. Jan had an ultrasound research of his belly(we call it here an "echo"or "echoscopie")and already had a quick talk with that doctor and he was satisfied. Jan's spleen becamse a bit smaller again(good sign for him) and there was no or practically no fluid in his belly. so far, so good.
Now he has to wait till almost end November to have his appointment at the hospital with his doctor to hear more.

I had also  a phonecall with Heidi, and for noow one of the operations will not have to be done, seems the infusion line that distributes her medicin is holding on quite okay. well, better only one operation then two almost at the same time.

The weather is getting drastically colder here, today I think we only have around 8C, and that is not much at all. Only good thing is that we have some sunshine, and that is already something. even when it is cold, when the sun is shining it doesn;t seem so bad.
We will have that colder weather for two more days, may be 3, then it seems we will have again around 14C. That sounds much better!
(and at the moment the temperature inside is as bad as outside LOL).

Oh, the day started however well. We had a good night sleep, and when we had our coffe around 11.00 in the morning we watched an epsiode of Strictly come Dancing I registered from the BBC. This time the theme was Halloween. I didn't see it yet all, but oh my, it was beautiful and funny. I did say it already before, but I really love this show/competition. One act already got 39 points, which is very high, while the highest score for a couple is 40 points.
I'll see when the temperature will be right again to see the rest, hahaha!

This week I managed to make a small kit with Halloween theme, I named it Don;t be too Scared. Hope you wll like it.
have a lovely day and week and awesome Halloween if you celebrate it.
I must be on the look out for some withes flying over our house on Halloween night!
And croos your fingers with me for an easy and not to costly repair of
the kitchen tap!!

It is getting frisk now,

Goodafternoon everybody!

yeah, the weather definately is changing slowly. We still have a rather nice day today, about 17C, with here and there a bit of sunshine in the morning but getting cloudier during the day.
And later this week we will not reach a higher temperature of 12-14C.
It is a big change to the weather we had till now.

Oh boy, Jan did a big job this week, he painted all the wooden posts of the windows and door of the extension outside. Well, some parts really needed a new coat of paint, and now the wood is well protected again.
It took a lot of his energy, so he has to take it easy for a couple of days.
At the moment he is going to plant a few bulbs in the garden, some tulips and some daffodils. He already has planted some small tulips in a planter, they should flower in march/April.
Something like on this photo I borrowed from the web
They are called Mix of dwarf tulips Praesens.

We had a quiet week, I managed to ge some stuff done (cleaning some more, very boaring but when it is done, you feel kind of satisfied with yourself, hahaha).
Also we tried to enjoy the last good days with rather high temperatures and lots of sunshine. With a thicker sweater or so, and in the sunshine it was nice walking. I didn;t take on really long walks but I went into town city once(where I found some last Christmaspresents, I soon will have to wrap them and I want to send a bix of very early, because last year it took a real long time before arriving at destination!), I also went to the market, bought some veggies, cheese and apples.
We can do with that for a whole week or may be even a bit longer with the veggies. I love to make my own apple compote, it tastes aLOT better than the ones you can buy in a pot in the supermarket.
And I need some apples for out parakeets. Yes, they have returned, i told you that last week but this morning I counted about 7 of them on our rosebow(where I hang the little nets with appleparts and sometimes some peanuts too).
I am really happy I see and hear them again.

I have today a new kit for you, named In the Library.
May be I will have something for Halloween next week, but I am not promising anything.  Perhaps I find time(and mostly inspiration and energy) to make a mini kit, I just don;t know yet.
For now I wish you a lovely Sunday and week ahead.
Thanks for visiting and please, stay safe everybody!

Last breaths of life of Summer??

Goodmorning everybody!

Just for ten minutes more it is morning LOL!
Oh, the last few days we had fantastic weather. yesterday temperatures were , I think, around 25/26C here, gorgeous!
Today we have still another day with lovely temperatures of may be 24, and for a few more days we still will be able to enjoy real pleasant weather. But.....(as there is always a but..)from midweek all will come to temperatures that will be normal for the time of year.
So no more than 16-17C(which is not really bad), but something different from today's weather.
Oh well, let's enjoy the (perhaps or probably)last warm breath of Summer.

Jan went to the doctor last Monday, to have his ear fixed and it did work.
So he says he cann hear in stereo again now, hahaha.
He also finished the front windows, they are looking good, but there only was a slight little problem there. We have a little window in the large one, that at times we open for a bit of fresh air. Only after the paint job, it didn;t open again. Oops, he forgot to open it while he was painting it. Never mind, he managed to remove the bit off paint that got it stuck, with not a lot of trouble, and we can open and close it again.
There are always little things that give you some extra work.
Like this week when I did a laundry and had a duvet I washed and wanted to dry outside(yes, this duvet I can wash in the machine, it's not a "real"duvet with feather in it). I flopped it over the line, only when I used a bit of force to hand it right the line snapped. Bummers, now I had to put another line. Looked around in the house, I thought I still had a bit of line, but no, couldn't find it. Problem.
I found the solution. I had a lot of thick binding wire for plants, real soft and strong, so I made a drying line out of that. Pfffff, finally I could hand my duvet.
You see, not a big problem, but there often happens a little thing makes a job you want to do takes more time.

It was such nice weather yesterday that I walked to the market. We needed a bit of fresh veggie and some cheese and so I bought that.
I passed the gardening stand(very dangerous) and yes, I bought us some spring bulbs. I bought some mini tulips great for in a big pot, some a bit larger tulips and some daffodils. Over the years all my daffodils disappeared and I love to see them in early spring, they are so bright and bring a bit of happy feelings in still rather gloomy days.
Now it is up to Jan to plant them(of course I could do it, but it gives him something to do, hahaha).

Oh, this week Jan and I went into city town, to buy him a pair of new shoes. I was urging him already for a long time to buy some new ones and then a pair that would give him could support. With his not too good back, he needs that. So finally we went and hoorray, he found a pair. They look kind of sporty, but not too much, and he said they walked very well when he tried them on a walk. Good, something I don't have to think about anymore for some time.

This week I have the clusters from Arlene, made with the Peacock's Sanctuary kit. They are so lovely.  I am always amazed about her work, how she can come up every time with such lovely clusters and great quick-pages.

About time now to finish this post and watch an episode of Gardener's World I registered from Friday evening. I love that program and they always have some good tips.
Take care of yourselves, have a wonderful week!

My husband still can amaze me, LOL!

Goodafternoon everybody!

It is just after 12.00 so I am not really late. But first I had a long sleep today, I woke up around 8.30 then had a cup of tea, and my still weren´t awake, so I decided to take an extra nap on the couch, and oh boy, it did me good!!
The weather is still rather good, yeah. during this week temps did creep up again to around 20-21C, now today we have a temperature dipp again, it will not be more than 15C, but the sun is shining.
Then it will be better and better during coming week, if all will come true we will have up to 22-23C from Wednesday, wow!

This week I survived an attack of cleaning rage, LOL! No, serious, beginning this week I was busy in the kitchen, adn noticed that the drainer for the dishes and such could do with a thourough cleaning, and one thing lead to another, so a part of the kitchen had a good cleaning, plus the toilet, and did a laundry and some other things.
Pffff, I got tired of myself that day, hahaha.(but also was satisfied at the same time, I finally dug up some extra energy)
Wednesday Jan and I took our flu shot. and then  saw Jan talking with the secreatary about an appointment with the doctor!!!
Amazing. I tried to persuad him for two or three weeks to make an appointment(for his coughing and also to ask about his nails, he has very bad looking nails at the moment, they are very brisk and aweful looking) and now finally he made one.
So he had that on Friday, got a tablet for his cough, and he probably has a kind of virus or bacterie in his nails, it just has to grow out, doctor said. Well, hopefully after a few weeks that will be done with.
I do hope the tablet will help for his cough, because for him it is annoying.
The doctor really had to search for a medication, that Jan could have, because of his other medicins(specially his liver).
He has another appointment tomorrow, Monday, that is to clean one ear. He complained that he could hear much less with his right ear, doctor looked, seems he has some "dirt'there, that is the cause.
So tomorrow the doctor will spray the ear clean.

Oh, there is some good news. It seems, that slowly some parakeets are coming back. Last week we saw at least two, sometimes early morning and sometimes towards the evening. Yesterday we even had 4 again! They only stay for a short visit, but still, they found their way to us again. Silly, may be, but  am kind of relieved I saw them again.

Because of the mild weather, several things in the garden are still blooming, ,like a bush rose that has it's second flowering, wow.
Then we still have some dahlia's even fuchsia's that are still in bloom.
With this kind of weather it is hard to imagine that in about 2½ months
we already have Christmas. It soon will be time for me to think about one or two or may be more Christmaskits.
At the moment I am busy with a kit, so may be after I finished that one, I could already start on a Christmaskit, and work on that together with working on a general one.

Not this Saturday, but the Saturday before, we had a delicious easy dinner. I found a recipe for braised beef, then we ate the meat pulled on a sandwich(a bun), and it was sooo good.
It is meat you will have to take time for, but the good thing about it is also that you can prepare it one or two days in advance. It just takes 4 or 5 hours on the stove.
This is the recipee I used:
It is made with ca. 500 grams of braised beef, which could be good for 4 persons.

2 tablespoons of sunflower oil
2 shredded onions
2 cloves of garlic pressed
tablespoon grated fresh ginger (or use dried powder)
1 tablespoon of brown sugar
1 or 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (careful with the amount, preferably less than too much)
1 tablespoon of sambal (that is a hot pepper sauce from Indonesia, if you don;t have that in stock, use chili powder or flakes, or another strong pepper in sauce or even a chopped fresh one, and be careful with the quantity too, it depends on how much you like strong spicy food, if not so much, use less, obviously)
2 teaspoons of cinnamon

Heat the oil in a thick-bottomed frying pan, and fry the onions for about 3 minutes. Add the meat and fry until golden brown. Then add all other ingredients, add water until the meat is just below. Leave to simmer for approx. 4 hours (or until the meat is super soft) Add extra water if the meat is boiling dry.
Then simmer the meat for about 1 hour without a lid on the pan.
Pull the meat apart and put on the buns.
Nice to put some lettuce on the sandwiches, possibly some fresh cucumber slices,or whatever is at hand or to your liking, and some coriander.

Your bun could look like this.

Note for the ingredients, specially the spices. I often use spices as I have in stock, improvise a bit, and often the result is even better!
And also about the quantaties given in recipes, often you just have to use them exactly, (I think about baking), but in stews like this, or oven recipes, you often can improvise a bit(like i often do.)
Well, may be  have given you an idea for a meal in a weekend. Hope the recipe is clear enough.
it is worth a try, I found it very yummie, and I will certainly will make it again.

Good I think  have written a long anough post for today
Now it is time for you second part of the Peacock's Sanctuary kit.
Have a wonderful week, stay safe and healthy, please!

Download part 2 HERE

Oh boy, I just noticed now that on the preview I didn;t put the name of the kit! I am getting sloppy. Sorry for that.

Almost October! Can you believe it?

Goodafternoon everybody!

Yes, time goes as it goes, but it is a shame that we are saying goodbye to September already. We did had some days with rather nice weather, also days with less, most of it because the temperatures weren;t all too high. But you can expect that at this time of the year.
This week again we will start with temps around 15-16C, later in the week we may reach again 18C.

What did  do this week?
All the usual things, of course. Then i got busy in the garden, i did prune a lot of the ivy, really necessary!. It looks already much better now, but i think I will have to do another round one of these weeks.
Jan got busy on painting the two front windows, with one it was really necessary, because the paint began to come off. Now the window looks good again and today Jan is doing the second window.
So that will be ready for wintertimes.
I am a bit worried for Jan however. I have the idea he isn;t feeling 100%, but asking him has little use and he isn;t often speaking out about those things. Difficult man at times, believe me.
e said however that he though he was retaining a bit too much fluid, specially in his belly (and I don;t like that), with consequence he has gained a bit on weight. Not yet spectaculair, but he decided he would raise a little bit the mg. intake on one medicin(he has permission for that from his doctor). Now we must keep a good eye on his weight(and belly) and see if that helps. His next appointment with his doctor in hospital isn;t due till in November.
But let;s first see how the raise of the medicin works.

This week we will take our flu shot (our first). We though it might be a good idea to do it this year, with all the trouble we have gone through the last year. Better try to be as prepared as possible!

One thing however brightens my life for sure, and that is the start of a new season of Strictly come dancing on the BBC. I saw already the first two and it was great again. There are a few very good candidates again.I just love that program.

Still not very much birds in the garden. Perhaps there is one explanation for the parakeets. Jan read in the local newspaper that they found  a new place to sleep and that is in the middle of the city, around the government buildings(there is a lake, the Hofvijver and also quite some big trees around), so that might explain why they don;t come(yet) to our garden anymore. Their last "hiding"place was in a park, a bit closer to our home.
We will just have to wait and see during winter.

While I am at the computer, and Jan is outside painting, I though it would be nice to have some music(I do that at times when I am busy at the computer), but this time I put on some classical music, for now the Nocturnes of Choping. Beautiful music, so romantic. However I don't like all of them the same. Nr.1 is lovely, so is nr.2 and there are more.It also depends on the performing artist, every performer has his or her own interpretation, and it makesa big difference , believe me!
Of course  have lots of LP's with piano music, but I also like at times some violin, or guitar or other instruments, or just orchestral music.
But other times I put on some "modern"music, and I have many favourites in there too.
Music brings peace, happiness, it can be a comfort. It's is just something fantastic.

Okay, time to finish this post. I have a new kit for you. Lately I got several requests if I had the links for a Peacock kit. I did one a few years ago. Well, i don;t have a link anymore, I believe I even don;t have the kit anymore. To cut it short, I've made another kit, with a peacock theme, I named it Peacock's Sanctuary. I got carried away a little bit when busy on it, so it has become a rather big kit. That's why i decided to split it in two downloads. You get one today and the second next Sunday. Hope you don;t mind.

Have a lovely week.

Some Royalty this week.

Goodafternoon everybody!

Weather report: start of the week still good with nice temperatures, after Wednesday temperatures went down and today we have only around 15-16C! Brrr, hard to get used to. That with quite some rain it suddenly seems to be autumn indeed. However, later this week we may have some rise of temperature again to may be 19C and more sunshine.

This week, on Tuesday, we had our Prinsjesdag again, which is the official opening of the parliamental year. It is always nice to look at the ride of the King and Queen in their carriage. And there always is the IG question: what dress will our Queen Maxima wear?
she had a very nice one, although I have to admit it wasn;t her most beautiful. Well, you can judge for your own, I have a nice link to an English site with lots of photos.
And admit, we do have a really charming and good looking Queen!
here is the link to more nice photos
http://worldroyalfamily.blogspot.com/2018/09/dutch-royal-family-attends-parliamental.html

What else happened? h yes, of course there was the final of the America got's talent with our Glennis Grace. She didn;t win it, such a pity, but we are still very proud of her. And it already is a fantastic achievement to have reached the finals.

Yesterday I made a phonecall to my friend Heidi, just to hear if all was okay, and it wasn;t. Stupid girl made a fall last week on the street, and banged her head. It all seemed to have turned out weel, without real big conseqeunces, she only has a very bruised face in all kind of colors now. I was very cross with her, because she didn;t let me know.
I asked her if she had been at the ER at the hospital. She finally went there after 2 days! Then they have made a scan and there was no real internal damage, still she was held in hospital over 1 night, just to check. She has been very lucky, I guess. It is kind of tricky with her, if she gets wounds because she used bloodthinners. I believe she has to take a bit less for a shorter time, but all together she did give me a scare, you know!
So if all goes normal, I want to visit her tomorrow at some time, just to see her for a moment.
It really isn;t her year, because she also has trouble with the new implanted line for her lung medicins, so probably it needs to be replaced and then it may be necessary that she undergoes an operation to or around her heart, to close a bloodvain by burning it. It seems she has a bloodvain(lucky a little one)too much or so, and it disturbes the bloodpressure on her heart, making it working in a very high rythm at times.
All this has to be done in October or November, as quickly as possible anyway, as soon as there is room in the operation schedule of the hospital. it would be nice if the two operations could be done at the same time, she has to ask that at an appointment start October, but that might be a problem. Also she has the bad luck that she cannot have a complete anesthesia, because of her lung illness.
No, she isn;t having much luck this year.

Is there perhaps some brighter news too? Nothing special, really.
All things go as they go at the moment. I do my little things around the house, as everybody has to do LOL. And with the weather not being fantastic, we spend more time indoors now. When we still had the nice weather, beginning of the week, I did some re-planting in the garden of some smaller bushes(well, they have to become that in time hahaha), and a I splitted up a few plants, because they have become too big.
The "extra"bits so to speak, I planted in another spot. Good way to get some more plants and at the same time it unites the planting.
Also dug up some bulbs of gladiolusses and smething else, of which i don;t know the name. We had them in a smaller border, but it wasn;t the good place for them. I planted part of them in another place, where I can give them more easily some support. Another part is lying in the little shed, till I have figured out where to plant them.
Jan also put away the chairs and umbrella, I don't think we will need them anymore this year. and if we still would have some nice days, we do have another pair of smaller chaires we can put at the patio.

something strange is happening though. The last few weeks we hardly see any birds. Just a couple of doves(normally we have a bunch of them), almost no or no parakeets at all, also other birds we don;t see.
Now Jan read in a newspaper that there is a might be a reason of a pesticide used, but it isn;t yet proven that rreally that is a reason.
And this might apply to some species of birds but not all of them. Could it have to do with the dry summer? Or perhaps there is somebody in the nieghbourhood who doesn;t like birds and is doing aomething about it(don;t know what, but it might be a possibility?). Anyway, I think it is very strange, specially that I don;t see my parakeets anymore. we always had at least two or three that ALWAYS came by for a bit of apple or some birdseed. We just will have to wait and see what happens later in the year.

Good, think I covered all I could tell you, I think my washing machine is ready with the laundry. Will hang that out to dry, then I want to make some apple compote. It is so yummie when you make it yourself and it doesn;t take much time. Most of the time is taken by peeling the apples and cutting them.
Today I have two sets of clusters from Arlene for you, and next week there will be a new kit, okay?
Wishing you a lovely Sunday and fantastic week to come, hope everybody is safe from tornado effects and such.
Till next week.

A bit of Holland to America!

Goodafternoon everybody!

The weather here is okay and large part of next week it will only get better and warmer, kind of second summer. Well, you know i don;t mind a bit of nice temperatures of around 25 C.
don;t think it will last for very long, but every day like that is better than one with ice and snow!

Jan is still suffering from his cold, not couching as much as he did, he only suffers from it in periods, it seems. Worst is when he wants to lie down to sleep, then it gets to him. But.... perhaps mending is around the corner. He slept this night for quite a long time, without having to cough. let's hope it will go upwards from now.

I am a bit angry with myself, perhaps silly, but true. I should have made a few phonecalls this week, but i didn;t make them. I did feel rather tired and tried to sleep some extra in the mornings, so that kind of "disturbed" my normal "schedule". Still I could have made those calls. Now I must make them next week. I really hope I can live up to that promise to myself LOL!

Apart from that, all went rather well I can say. I did finish a new kit, so that is a good thing, and i even started another one(well, I chose the color scheme and made 1 or two papers, haha).
And yes, we have a Dutch lady singer who entered America;s got talent and she is in the finals now! I have to say she is a really good singer and on top of that she also is a very nice women. I have for you two links, so if you want you can look and listen to her.
First if a video with her audition song and second is with a video of her semi final song plus a newspaper article.
Wouldn;t it be fantastic if she actually would win this contest?
Well, here are the links for those interested and if by any chance you think our Glennis deserves to win, well, America, you can vote for her!
If you want to know more about the contest and the other finalists, you surely would be able to find that on Google.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4Tdwa7zyjQ

https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2018/09/dutch-singer-glennis-grace-makes-final-of-americas-got-talent/

The finals will be broadcast on America's Got Talent network NBC at 8pm ET on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 18-19.

Okay, I did my bit of promotion here, I think LOL!

So now it is about time to have a sandwich and also to look at my pan with a stew of lamsmeat, with some paprika, onion and mushrooms in it, to see if it is ready. Then I only will have to boil some potatoes later.
Today I have clusters from Arlene, made with the Stories told without words kit.
Have a great week and I hope everybody stays safe, (with all those hurricanes around!).

We cleared a bit the garden.

Goodafternoon everybody!

Hmmmm, I am kind of late today. But I had some late winks this morning, I was up rather early, but after a while my shutters fell down again, so  took some extra sleep. Probably needed some.
Jan also slept late today, but that more because he didn;t sleep a lot last night. Probably caused by some caughing he did almost all the time.
It started yesterday late afternoon, and it didn;t stop. we took his temperature, but that was normal(I already was glad about that). I think he caught a cold or so which is playing those tricks with him.
Well, he just has to "sit"it out, I suppose. You know how he is about going to our doctor with things( very difficult, must be very bad before he makes an appointment, sigh!).
May be the weather in the cming days will help somewhat, next few days, at least till Wednesday, temps will rise again to around 22C, sometimes with some clouds, but also lots of sunshine and probably no rain. Then they say on the weather channel that the temperatures will drop again somewhat to around 19C. Okay, I can live with that, although the 22-23C sounds better , hahaha.

Last week and start of this one, we filled a lot of big plastic sacks with lots of pruning stuff, weeds and mostly dried pine needles that comes of the huge fir tree of the neighbour. Alltogether I think we filled  around 10 big sacks. So I called the city council to have those sacks picked up by the "garden-garbage"truck. We had to put the stuff outside on Thursday evening and yeah, oh miracle, they did pick it up on Friday!

What happened the rest of the week? I cannot remember much so it must have been a rather quiet week. Funny thing though happened.
During the week I was thinking about Jan's sister, who lives in Belgium now. They don;t have a lot of contact but the last couple of years a bit more. So I though I should send her a little email this weekend, just to say we were more or less okay and such. And what happened? before I did so, she was on the phone yesterday. Strange things sometimes happen.

I also did some designing on the computer, I am busy with one kit, but it is only progressing slowly. So that one I couldn;t finish for this weekend. I already had that feeling midweek or so, which made me decide to make a smaller one, so that I had at least something for you to download. Pffff, I just finished it yesterday afternoon and got it uploaded this morning. Near escape ROFL!

Oh, sometimes there are happy things that happen! There was a huge problem about deporting two children from the Netherlands back to Armenia. Those children came here as they were 2/3 years old, so they lived all their life here in the Netherlands, folowed dutch school, talk Dutch as native language etc. First it has to nbe said that of course lots of refugees that come here cannot stay here, at least, they have to go back to their country when that is safe for them. And there are also lots of "economical"refugees trying to get asylum here, which is a different category, so to speak. But sometimes there are circumstances that you just cannot strickly follow the law only.
I have two newspaper articles for you(if you want to know more about this case). Those children were in suspence till almost the last minute(they must have almost a trauma about it now, they certainly need peace and quiet now and some stability), but then suddenly the minister who decided they had to go, changed his mind(well, perhaps he didn;t completely by heart, but he used his right of discretion) and the children can stay in the Netherlands. And I am very happy about it.
Those children would have had a very uncertain future in Armenia, whcih no one could want for them.
No, I am not saying that it should happen for everybody, but one thing that is causing this "problem"is that the procedures are taking much too long time(sometimes 5 to 10 years, like with these children), and that is no good at all.
And there are still some cases like this one, also with children that are already here from very young age and don;t get a permit to stay after 8 or 10 years. That isn;t right. They are brought up herespeak Dutch, are Dutch as we, followed school etc. You cannot be serious to send them back to their native country, with which they have no connection at all.
I know, it is a tricky subject to discuss and very difficult to handle, but in a certain number of cases government should give children a "pardon", meaning they can stay here as Dutch citizen and live and built their their life here.
Okay, enough said, here are the two links to the articles, that explain not all, but a bit about the case.

Enough rambling now, time to say goodbye and give you the download for the small kit, named Autumn is Close.
Have a fantastic week ahead and if all is well, I will be there again next Sunday.
